‘Hellboy II: The Golden Army’
The latest creation from Oscar-nominated director
Guillermo Del Toro is "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army", a fast-paced,
action filled movie with just the right amount of comedy and character-based
spectacle. The world's fiercest, kitten-loving hero from Hell is back
with a vengeance. With massive muscles and even bigger weapons, our
hero is taking on more wicked villains than ever before. The mythical world
initiates an insurgence against humanity in order to rule the Earth, so as
Hellboy and his team returns it is up to them to save the world from the
rebellious creatures.
Guillermo Del Toro and his crew have created a stunning,
entertaining film that builds on the original “Hellboy” and
sends it to new comedic and action-packed heights, giving the lovable hero a
second round to amuse and inspire. This movie has something for everyone, all
presented in a bizarre, unique, visually stunning, monster-infested package! Radio
Metro’s exclusive preview screening of ‘HellBoy II: The Golden
Army’ is on Wednesday August 27th at Birch Carrol & Coyle, Cinemas,
Pacific Fair. Platinum

Parklife 08 Since
its launch back in 2000, Parklife has featured some of the latest and hottest
bands from around the world. National and international DJ’s will
be gracing the stage during shows in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and
Brisbane. The Parklife Brisbane show will once again be hosted by Fuzzy
Promotions at the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens and River Stage, providing
the crowd with a unique and cool concert experience. The DJ’s are
coming from just about everywhere in the world, taking time out of their busy
schedules to come and perform to their fans. First off, French-born DJ
Martin Solveig, who has been involved in the music scene from a very young
age. He gave up classical music at the age of 13 to see where his talent as a
DJ would take him. His first residency came at one of Paris’ most
popular nightclubs, Le Palace. Everybody knows Solveig for his
smash club anthem from last year, Rejection, which was a hit all over
the dance charts. Then, only a few
countries away, Belgium’s own 2ManyDJ’s are coming to Parklife as
well. Also known as Soulwax on the DJ scene, these two brothers are
best known for their album As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2. They
specialize in hard electro and dance beats to keep the club pumping all night
long. Just across the
water to Solveig’s home country, comes Dizzee Rascal. Born and raised
in the U.K., Dizzee will head to Australia to play at all of the Parklife
events this year. Dizzee jumped onto the scene at an early age, and
still remains to keep himself busy not only by making music, but by producing
tracks and albums as well. A little bit
closer to home, we have a band called Grafton Primary, who come from Sydney,
and comprise of two brothers –Joshua and Ben- and their drummer-
Robbie. This super cool trios’ philosophy is to “educate,
innovate and liberate” to just about anyone who will listen. Grafton Primary
have recently made their mark on the Australian dance scene, releasing an
awesome remix of the Duke’s of Windsor track, ‘It’s A
War’. This years’ Parklife promises to be one of the best festivals this year. Tickets for the Brisbane show are on sale now. For more info, head to www.parklife.com.au or www.tenpoundcrew.com.

Menno de Jong Menno
de Jong is already dining with the big wigs of the DJ world with his own
independent label Intuition Recordings and his respectable listing as 62nd
on the DJ Magazine’s Top 100 chart. He has his own radio show, can
boast gigs in over 25 countries, has closed gigs
for Tiësto & Paul van Dyk, and is a pioneer in the podcasting craze.
At this pace it looks like there will be amazing things in the not so distant
future for Menno de Jong. Menno began experimenting with synths at a young age in his
father’s studio, trading high school disco and friend’s party
decks for a two year residency at an underground club in Eindhoven at the age
of 17. He launched his career in 2004 at the age of 20 with debut track
‘Guanxi’ signed to Anjunabeats. He went on to create hit after
hit with Magma’/‘Momentum’ and ‘Sjamaan’ (in
2005 & 2007 respectively), and ‘Tundra’ (2005) and
‘Nolthando’/ ‘Solid State’ (2007), the latter two
appearing through his own record label. Since then he has DJ’d with
such huge names as Armin van Buuren, The Prodigy, Marco V and Markus Schulz
and has played at events such as Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Creamfields, Trance
Energy, Sensation White and Mysteryland. With the podcast of his widely
listened to show available to download at any time, Menno is definitely at
the cutting edge of technology as well as the dance music scene. Fans can check out the interview with Menno de Jong and Radio Metro’s DJ Tommy on the interview section of the Radio Metro website: click here |

As
the range of Jason Brooks’s sexy and instantly recognisable cartoon CD
covers suggest, Hed Kandi must be the music what angels listen to. Their
tracks have always been described as glittering, glorious, shiny, stylish and
delicious and their latest addition is no exception with a double shot of all
their tried and tested House and Disco hits from Hed Kandi dance floors
worldwide. This year Hed Kandi bring out their latest Disco Heaven
compilation, calling it a selection of Winter Warming Disco and House Anthems
including Freemasons, Alex Gaudino and Stonebridge. The
2006 Disco Heaven got very mixed reviews and fans were skeptical since Mark
Doyle packed his bags and moved on from the project, calling it something
more between heaven than hell rather than pure heaven, but hopefully with
this new compilation we will see the Hed Kandi team along with their Ministry
of Sound friends feel more at home and come into their own. For those behind
the Hed Kandi times, Mark Doyle was the UK based DJ and record label owner
who founded the Hed Kandi label in 1999 for Jazz FM, launching Hed Kandi as a
widely known name amongst the dance scene worldwide, only to leave the HK HQ
in the summer of 2005 to start his own independent record label. But
let’s not dwell on the past, this new Disco Heaven compilation has a
definite Jazzy flavour, evoking the zest of classy club lounge rooms along
with the heady smog of down town Jazz bars. The first CD of the twin pack
kicks this sound off with good examples such as Wez Clarke and Maxine
Hardcastle feat. The Lovely Laura on Sax with Another Chance (Richard Earnshaw Remix) and Jack McCord pres.
Payton feat Timmy Trumpet with It’s
a shame. All tracks on the first CD are very laid back and easy on the
ears. Although, if you want to listen to this CD intensely rather than just
as atmospheric background music, you may have to get yourself in the right
mood otherwise you might end up fidgeting in your seat or forgetting to
listen to it properly. Feel free to skip to the next track. Although you may
like to pause a moment and be intrigued by some of the lyrics such as Peyton
and The Rhythm Republic “deciding to be a girl” in their track Never Give Up. The
second CD begins on a much more promising note than the first, with an Ian
Carey Remix of Supafly Inc’s Be
Together, a thrilling mixture of old school reggae and modern bouncy
House beats. Most of the Disco Heaven tracks have this same timeless quality,
with such a strong mix of the modern and the classical and jazzy that you are
often hard pressed to discern what era it is from, but this is the best trait
that these CDs have. This Supafly Inc track, like others on the CD, are such
seemingly simple songs but you find yourself entranced by them, unable to
skip to the next song. But on closer inspection, you realise each track is
laden with different beats and samples flowing over each other. Strong drum
beats and soulful women’s voices are a feature of this CD, try Reach Out by Sweet Mercy feat Rowetta
(J Nitti Made in Melbourne Remix) next time you are looking for a strong Jazz
inspired track that is still perfect for dancing to. This
CD seems easier to listen to than the first, and I retract my statement about
Hed Kandi being just atmospheric background music, as you need all your ears
(you’ll wish you had three) to listen to these tracks. Overall
it is a solid effort from the Hed Kandi team, but don’t go expecting
sounds that are much different to the previous Heaven CDs. Fans have been
complaining about the amount of rehashing done in Kandi’s compilations,
but with their funky Jazz inspired tunes and House and Disco beats it seems
they’re onto something good that will have you dancing all the way to
the pearly gates. New Music Music Added 25th August 2008 TO
